Carl Edwards has enough fuel to beat Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson at Pocono.

While the Ford contingent enjoyed a solid outing at Pocono, Carl Edwards remains the only Ford driver to break into the win column and we are six months deep into the season. As usual, Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth were impressive, and David Ragan continues his enhancement in performance with a fifth place finish. Jamie McMurray cracked the top ten, mainly due to fuel mileage as opposed to performance. Yates Racing driver David Gilliland had one of the fastest cars on the track in the early segment of the race. He struggled in traffic and eventually ran out of gas during a green flag run.

Is there anyone besides Carl Edwards that is going win driving a Ford? It is just a matter of time before Kenseth and Biffle find victory lane.

Edwards qualified fifteenth and worked his way through the field early in the race, quickly establishing himself as the one of the drivers to beat. However, strategy worked to his favor. When the race delayed due to rain, Edwards opted to pit on lap 128, with the perception that the race would resume once the showers dissipated. Meanwhile, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin, and Greg Biffle remained on the track.

Once the race resumed, Kahne and the rest of the leaders that stayed out had to pit twice, while Edwards only had one pit stop to make.

Edwards was leery of the decision to pit made by his crew chief Bob Osborne.

“Bob (Osborne) and I were really arguing. I was really nervous we made the wrong call there. But Bob Osborne is just real smart.”

Tony Stewart came away with a second place finish, and Jimmie Johnson finished third as he crossed the finish line with a dry fuel tank.

Kevin Harvick climbs back into the top twelve in the Sprint Cup championship standings after his fourth place showing. Harvick rallied from a lap down after he spun on the first lap due to contact from an old nemesis, Joe Nemechek. He is eleventh in the championship standings, 19 points ahead of Kenseth who fell to thirteenth after an eleventh place finish.

Harvick’s Richard Childress Racing teammate Clint Bowyer is twelfth in the Sprint Cup championship standings, 11 points ahead of Kenseth.

The Chase for the Championship is heating up, as the battle to get into the top twelve is becoming increasingly intense as we edge closer to the 26th race of the season. David Ragan is fourteenth, 46 points behind Bowyer.

Quote of the week

Ron Fellows after winning the NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

“That (racing in the rain) was difficult…But it was good fun. Now I've got to make Dale Jr. let me run next week [when the Nationwide Series goes to Watkins Glen]."
