Texas Motor Speedway holds two NASCAR races each year, and the crowd gets larger every time. Race weekend is full of tail gating, camping out and of course...racing.

NASCAR racing comes to Texas Motor Speedway in both April and November, and it is no secret! The entire week before race weekend is filled with NASCAR memorabilia almost everywhere, from car flags and decal to clothing and souvenirs sold at kiosks in the parking lot of several popular gas stations.

Some NASCAR fans only attend the Sprint Cup race on Sunday, but there are thousands of other race fans that set up camp for the whole weekend. It isn't even surprising to see these fans take vacation time from work just so that they can be present for all of the tailgating fun that race weekend brings.

The Joys of Race Weekend

There are several reasons why NASCAR fans love this particular time at Texas Motor Speedway:

  • Meeting new and interesting race fans
  • The excitement and thrill of watching the race live
  • Weekend tailgating and camping out
  • Souvenir alley

For those crazed fanatics that camp out all weekend there is the option of pitching a tent or bringing a camper, and they each have their own designated area. It is not at all common to see the tents in with the campers unless the people are together as a group. The Saturday night before the Sprint Cup race is the most fun filled night of the weekend.

Saturday night of race weekend is full of music performed by individuals and their bands located inside the camp grounds, delicious food and adult beverages! In April (Samsung 500) and November (Dickies 500) there is a Busch race that Saturday followed by the Sprint Cup race on Sunday. There is also an added bonus in November which allows race fans to watch the truck race on Friday night.

For all of the early birds that awake at sunrise on Sunday, there is something wonderful called "Souvenir Alley" on the outside walls of Texas Motor Speedway. This simply consists of walking around and checking out all of the booths and receiving several items and a variety of memorabilia at no cost.

Race Weekend Downfalls

  • Race traffic
  • A lot of walking
  • Parking issues

All of the race fans in Texas know that the traffic on Sunday before the Sprint Cup race is crazy! There are always roads blocked off and shut down, and it makes it extremely difficult to maneuver to the final destination...Texas Motor Speedway. There is always a lot of walking to be done as well, but for the hyped up fans that camp out there are trolleys that can make it a little easier. This can be a great thing because the majority of race fans carry coolers along for the ride. Parking spots can also be such a pain because the later people arrive, the further back they have to park.

For all those race fans that love Texas Motor Speedway and race weekend...get geared up and ready because it's almost here. Gentleman start your engines!
