Every week, Suite 101 ranks the top 16 NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers based on results and performance.
1. (1) 48-Jimmie Johnson: So Jimmie Johnson is human after all!
2. (4) 24-Jeff Gordon: That was vintage Jeff Gordon, coming out of nowhere to finish in the top five.
3. (2) 17-Matt Kenseth: Kenseth is fortunate that he took Dale Jarrett out for good because the old man would have returned the favor, just ask Ryan Newman.
4. (5) 31-Jeff Burton: Burton’s quote: “My mother always told me to do onto other people the way you want them to do you.” So Kyle Busch should send Burton’s mother a thank you card.
5. (3) 20-Tony Stewart: It is no surprise that Stewart seemed to adapt to the Car of Tomorrow quicker than anyone else.
6. (7) 29-Kevin Harvick: Everyone talks about Jeff Gordon’s comeback, but what about Harvick? After starting the race in 40th position, Harvick valiantly worked his way to a fourth place finish.
7. (10) 5-Kyle Busch: Imagine the finish to that race if Robby Gordon was still driving the #31 instead of Jeff Burton.
8. (9) 11-Denny Hamlin: Joe Gibbs Racing has the Car of Tomorrow figured out. Now, if they could only figure out how to keep the fuel pump from malfunctioning.
9. (8) 99-Carl Edwards: It was an uneventful 12th place finish for Edwards. At least he won the Busch Series race on Saturday.
10. (6) 01-Mark Martin: If Mark Martin changes his mind and decides to run a full schedule; he would still be on pace to make the Chase for the Championship.
11. (12) 8-Dale Earnhardt Jr: Bad news- Earnhardt Jr finished behind Jeff Green. Good news- Earnhardt Jr finished 7th.
12. (13) 07-Clint Bowyer: Bowyer has three top tens in five starts in 2007.
13. (NR) 16-Greg Biffle: If Greg Biffle is the odd-man out at Roush-Fenway Racing when the team downsizes, he will be a hot commodity.
14. (NR) 26-Jamie McMurray: McMurray is saving his job right now.
15. (11) 2-Kurt Busch: Kurt’s weekend never really got off the ground.
16. (15) 40-David Stremme: Stremme just keeps getting better each week
