Every week, Suite 101 ranks the top 16 NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers based on results and performance.
After his win in the Coca Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Casey Mears enters the Suite 16, bumping Ryan Newman.
1. (1) 24-Jeff Gordon: With the exception of Greg Biffle and Jeff Green, everyone in the Coca Cola 600 gained some ground on Jeff Gordon in the Nextel Cup Championship standings.
2. (2) 48-Jimmie Johnson: A rare mistake on pit road proved costly for Jimmie Johnson and company.
3. (3) 11-Denny Hamlin: Denny Hamlin is on the verge of racking up about two or three wins.
4. (4) 17-Matt Kenseth: At least Matt Kenseth was able to gain some ground on Jeff Gordon in the Nextel Cup standings.
5. (6) 20-Tony Stewart: Frustration will continue to mount for Tony Stewart as the longer the doughnut in the win column is present.
6. (5) 31-Jeff Burton: It sure was a rough weekend for Jeff Burton and Richard Childress Racing as a whole.
7. (7) 2-Kurt Busch: I believe that Penske Racing will be glad to get back to the Car Of Tomorrow at Dover.
8. (9) 29-Kevin Harvick: Kevin Harvick’s rollercoaster ride of a season continues.
9. (11) 99-Carl Edwards: Carl Edwards fought back from a cut tire, and an incident with his teammate David Ragan to finish 15th. Actually, Edwards’ cut tire was the incident with Ragan.
10. (12) 8-Dale Earnhardt Jr: Dale Earnhardt Jr would be solidly in the top twelve in the Nextel Cup standings if it were not for that stinging 100 point penalty at Darlington two weeks ago.
11. (8) 5-Kyle Busch: Kyle Busch’s season is quickly falling apart.
12. (10) 07-Clint Bowyer: Clint Bowyer’s Coca Cola 600 weekend in Charlotte never really got off the ground.
13. (15) 01-Mark Martin: Believe it or not, Mark Martin could still vie for a spot in the Chase for the Championship if he were to run the remaining schedule.
14. (14) 26-Jamie McMurray: Jamie McMurray finished five laps off the pace, yet he finished 19th. Talk about attrition.
15. (16) 1-Martin Truex Jr: Martin Truex Jr drove his battered and bruised car to a respectable sixteenth place finish.
16. (NR) 25-Casey Mears: It does not matter how the cookie crumbles, when it is all said and done, a Hendrick Motorsports car will be in victory lane.
